Poetry of Self Definition: Turkish Poetry during the 1980-1983 Junta Period

This study scrutinizes the junta period following 12 September coup d’état, that is to say within 1980-1983. It’s a comparative study of the intra-poetic issues, including the poems published and the debates among the poets, paralleled with the social trends of the period. The nature of the influence of the process following the 12 September coup d’etat on the poets and poetic productions, and the links of this influence to the trends that emerged in society are the main questions of this thesis. For this purpose, the debates in literary periodicals particularly the poets participated to and the thematic qualities of the poems published in the period are analyzed. This thesis, focuses on the poets’ thematic and addressing/discursive choices, the junta period is taken as a social transformation process, enforcing and accelerating individualization rather than a period of resistance to an authoritarian regime. The process inevitably included mentality transformation too. This study examines both the mainstream and streams of poetry of September 12 to analyze the entire atmosphere of the 1980s, which were shaped by the military take over.

Benliği Tanımlamanın Şiiri: 1980-1983 Cunta Döneminde Türk Şiiri

Bu çalışma, boyunca Türkiye’de sıkıyönetimin hüküm sürdüğü 1980-1983 döneminde yayımlanan şiirler ve şairler arasında yürütülen tartışmalar çerçevesinde dönemin şiir içi meseleleri, aynı dönemdeki toplumsal eğilimlerle bakışımlı olarak incelenmiştir. 12 Eylül darbesini izleyen sürecin şairler ve şiirsel üretim üzerinde ne tür etkiler yarattığı, bu etkilerin toplumda beliren eğilimlerle ne tür ilintiler barındığı tezin temel sorunlarıdır. Bu kapsamda dönem içinde yayınlanan edebiyat dergilerinde özellikle şairlerin dahil olduğu tartışmalar ve yayımlanan kitaplardaki tematik özellikler ortak konu başlıkları altında incelenmiştir. Odak noktasını 80’li yıllardaki şairlerin tematik ve yaklaşımsal/söylemsel seçimlerinin oluşturduğu bu tezde, cunta dönemi bir direniş süreci olmaktan çok bireyselleşmeyi zorlayan ve hızlandıran bir dönem olarak bir toplumsal değişim süreci olarak alınmıştır. Bu süreç ister istemez bir zihinsel dönüşüm süreci de içermektedir. Çalışma boyunca 12 Eylül sonrasında darbeyle şekillenmiş kültürel atmosferin bütünlüklü bir haritasını çıkarabilmek amacıyla, dönemde görülen ve beliren şiirsel eğilimler, ana akım ve yan akımlar dahil edilerek incelenmiştir.
