The Role of the Istanbul Stock Exchange as a Source of Financing in the Quest for Global Integration

This study reviews the role of the Istanbul Stock Exchange as an instrument to host capital entry looking at the issue both from the host country and foreign capital perspectives. In particular, it analyzes the motivating factors behind the decision to internationalize, and the subsequent relations between local versus foreign capital explained along with the effects on financial development with the establishment of the Istanbul Stock Exchange in the first section. The next section is devoted to the case of the Istanbul Stock Exchange and the role of the stock exchange in the national economy and comparison to its peers as well as underlining attempt to define the role of foreign investors in the Istanbul Stock Exchange.

Bu çalısmada, Türkiye’nin batılılasma sürecinde alternatif bir enstrüman olarak sermaye piyasalarının gelisimi ve özellikle de İstanbul Menkul Kıymetler Borsasının hem ülke ekonomisine hem de yabancı sermayeye dahil olma çabasındaki rolü üzerine yoğunlasılmıstır. Tezin birinci bölümü, küresellesmeye uyum kararının arkasında yatan
motive edici faktörler ve İstanbul Menkul Kıymetler Borsasının kurulusuyla birlikte yerli sermaye ve yabancı sermaye arasındaki iliskinin finansal ve ekonomik gelismeye etkisinin analizini içermektedir. Đkinci bölümde ise, İstanbul Menkul Kıymetler Borsasının ulusal ekonomiye katkısı, yabancı yatırımcıların İstanbul Menkul Kıymetler Borsasındaki islevi ile kıyaslamalı olarak ele alınacaktır.
